Picasso ‘900. Cubism and Abstraction
Villa Ponti
from 26.12.2007 to 25.05.2008
Starting with the creative genius of the great master, Pablo Picasso, who has 15 works from 1913 to 1965 exhibited, the show, with Carlo Occhipinti as curator, offers an ideal cultural tour through the multiple artistic movements from the historical avant-garde that took place throughout Europe, even spreading into Italy, a country of absolute classicism, where the movements faced-off and enlarged even further. From the Cubism of Picasso, Braque, and Marcoussis, the review illustrates the aesthetic expression of the fantastic and imaginary creativity that gave life to various artistic currents, in continuous synergy and evolution, united in a constant search. The other one-hundred works on exhibit, all from prestigious private collections, represent a fascinating glimpse of the market and into the variegated panorama of middle-level amateur collecting. An important section of the exhibit is dedicated to the aesthetic experience of 20th century Italian art, starting with Futurism and works from Balla, Boccioni, and Depero, continuing on with the cubist experience of Cassinari, Guttuso, and Morlotti, reaching the informal experiences of Burri, Fontana, and Baj, until finally arriving at the very pure abstract of Turcato, Reggiani, and Vedova.
