Crafts and their environments; the contrast between poverty and middle class stressed through objects and furniture; the luxurious rooms of gambling houses, the oriental cloisters, the domestic walls and the interiors of churches and the choirs, so typical of XIX century painting. These are the themes of “L’altra metà della vita. Interni nell’arte da Pellizza a De Chirico”, an original exhibition of figurative art with over 80 paintings by the most active Italian artists of the XIX century second half and the first 30 years of the XX century. The exhibition includes 7 thematic sections, with a specific area for the hats of Museo Borsalino (Borsalino Museum). Many valuable artistic works can be admired from “La notte di Re Salomone” (King Solomon’s night) by Alberto Savinio (1930) to “Gli archeologi” (The archaeologists) by Giorgio De Chirico (1936), to “Figura Seduta” (Seated Figure) by Mario Sironi (1930). Many historical works are also present, from “La sedia vuota” (The empty chair) of 1903 by Angelo Morbelli to “La Bottega del calderaio” (The coppersmith’s workshop) by Carlo Fornara of 1892 – coming from the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica (Museum of Science and Technology) of Milan – to the important “Interno del Duomo di Milano” (Milan Cathedral interiors) by Filippo Carcano of 1872, up to “La vecchia nella stalla” (The old woman in the stall) by Pellizza da Volpedo of 1904 -1905. Organized by Nicoletta Colombo and Giuliana Godio, this exhibition allows the visitor to take a special look from the painter’s point of view, to observe the internal spaces of his soul and the environments where he used to work.
