Roberto Cuoghi Šuillakku
Castello di Rivoli – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea
from 06.05.2008 to 27.05.2008
Šuillakkum is centred on Pazuzu, an Assyrian demon whose iconography, through different forms and variations, is a part of our present. The public is introduced to the exhibit by a statue of the demon created by Cuoghi, modelled after and exemplar from the Assyrian era today kept at the Louvre in Paris. From the ancient statue that is only a few centimetres in height, the artist has created a new sculpture that is over five metres tall. Acknowledged as an inexhaustible researcher who has found a way to conceive his own idiom by working with different techniques, Cuoghi has also put together an impressive audio installation for this exhibit, inspired by the laments that the ancient Assyrians raised to their gods to invoke their protection.
