Thanks to the abundant snowfalls of these past days, the 2008/2009 ski season began well in advance. Various localities of the Alpine range in Piemonte are opening their resorts this weekend: at Alagna, in Valsesia, gondola lift Pianalunga – Cimalengna-Salati (without the halfway station of Cimalegna) is running as well as the gondola lift Alagna-Pianalunga and the Pianalunga-Bocchetta chairlift; in Macugnaga the Monte Moro ski areas (Ruppenstein, Lago and San Pietro skilifts) are open; in Prali, the Malzat-P Alpet chairlift, the P Alpet-Bric Rond chairlift and the Ciatlet skilift are all working. In the Via Lattea ski area, Sestriere is activating approximately ten ski resorts on the slopes of Alpette, in Borgata and in Banchetta. The Mondolè Ski is also starting up again, the largest skiable basin of the Cuneo province, uniting Artesina, Prato Nevoso and Frabosa Soprana. Cross-country ski lovers can try their hand on the Olympic circuit at Pragelato.
Sport is also the theme of the “Sport e design: progettare la competizione” exhibit that will be inaugurated on Friday, November 28 in Ivrea at the Movicentro; for the first time in an exhibit, a strictly ‘Made in Italy’ course is being presented that narrates the evolution of objects, tools and vehicles designed for sports, distinguished by avant garde materials.
On the other hand, for those who are not snow and sport enthusiasts, this last weekend of November is offering many cultural initiatives throughout the regional territory. In Casale Monferrato the “Ur sunu - Grandi dottori dell’Antico Egitto” exhibit is on display at Palazzo Sannazzaro that retraces the path of medicine by going backwards through time from modern day to the dawn of civilisation, presenting numerous archaeological finds concerning the land of the Pharaohs; in Alba at the Fondazione Ferrero headquarters, the “Il cioccolato. Dai Maya al XX secolo” can be viewed, a fascinating exposition that tells the story of the product best loved by gourmands the world over; in Caraglio at the Filatoio Rosso (Red Mill) the “Ettore Fico. Opere dal 1935 al 2004”, exhibit will be open until the end of December: a complete retrospective of the master, a great interpreter of Italy’s 20th century who during his artistic career was capable of joining moments of reality and a search for abstraction together.
A suggestion for Friday night, November 28th: New Yorker Joan as Policewoman’s concert and presentation of her “To survive” album, one of the most innovative and intriguing voices on the international musical scene. 10:00 p.m. at Hiroshima Mon Amour.
