Ghita! Festival of traditional games
Streets in town
the 01.06.2008
“Ghita” is an expression in dialect that children of Fariglino used to request a break in their games to catch their breath. There are a lot of opportunities to use this word during an event that gathers many traditional childhood games as well as board games and modelling. Among the wonders, there will be a chance to participate in games of Biribissi (a gambling game which Giacomo Casanova enjoyed immensely), or to try the carom, a sort of cousin of billiards whose origin seems to be from central Asia. Many of Italy’s traditional games that have remained more or less local, like la Pantalera, the Palet from the Valley d’Aosta, the Carrera Saracina of Garessio or the Trucco di terra, which is similar to cricket, played in the valleys near Finale Ligure are also present.
