The exhibition presents a significant selection of 80 splendid architecture drawings that are part of the collection of drawings by Michelangelo from the Casa Buonarroti of Florence.
It follows a chronological path that starts from the long experience of the fabbrica of San Lorenzo (1515-1534), to present some extraordinary fortification drawings produced during the second Florentine republic (1527-1530) and reaches the Roman architecture of his maturity and old age (1534-1564): in this last period the artist designed the re-planning of Piazza del Campidoglio, became responsible for the completion of Palazzo Farnese, was appointed the architect for the fabbrica of San Pietro, and finally produced ingenious projects for the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini and for Porta Pia.
