Torino 011| Biografia di una città
Officine Grandi Riparazioni delle Strade Ferrate
from 29.06.2008 to 08.12.2008
The exhibition is set in one of Torino's most important former industrial premises, the splendid halls of the H-shaped Officine Grandi Riparazioni delle Strade Ferrate, between Corso Castelfidardo and Via Borsellino. Thanks to the vicinity to the exhibiition "Flexibility. Design in a fast-changing society", this section of the city, which is intended as the centre of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the reunification of Italy in 2011, begins to define its artistic and cultural calling.
The exhibition is an important occasion to reflect on the physical, social and economic changes of Torino since the 1980s and to present critically the urban transformation processes underway, the plans and scenarios that will affect Torino in the future. Inside the disused factory, the exhibition route moves through different settings that tell the story of the metamorphosis of some places - Mirafiori, Lingotto, the historic centre, the Spine - interpreted as mirrors of new social structures and as focuses of economic and cultural processes. The itinerary stretches out amidst large interactive maps, projections and simulations, but also with drawings, sketches, "maquettes" and artistic photos.
In the period of the exhibition, the internal and external spaces of the OGR will be enlivened by a rich calendar of events: projections of films and documentaries, meetings, debates, and workshops dedicated to the city and its transformations.
Curators: Carlo Olmo and Arnaldo Bagnasco.
