World Championship of Canoe at Ivrea
Dora baltea
from 03.06.2008 to 08.06.2008
Approximately 250 athletes are expected from 25 nations representing Europe, North and South America, Asia and Oceania. 16 titles are up for grabs: male and female classic downstream for individual and team, male and female individual and team dash. The World Championships of Downstream Canoe take place every two years in a single test and are the greatest international manifestation of this specialty sport, since it has not yet become an Olympic sport. Ivrea, the habitual site for Italian and international canoe circuits, hosted the 2007 finals of the World Cup. This site is one of a kind in the world, having a natural fluvial course suitable to this discipline crossing the old town centre. For the first time in their history the Wildwater World Championships, usually run on rivers immersed in nature, are going to be in the middle of a city. Running parallel to moments of competition, Ivrea 2008 offers a plentiful agenda of cultural and performance dates.
