XXIII World Congress of Architecture UIA
Varie sedi
from 29.06.2008 to 30.07.2008
The UIA Congress is an opportunity for its participants to discover the city that is hosting them, to live its history, culture and atmosphere. This is why a programme filled with initiatives – exhibits, tours, presentations, concerts, publications – has been purposely studied to involve everyone in a festive environment under the banner of Architecture. The banks of the river Po will become a summer party spot for three nights in a row (June 30, July 1, 2, 2008) with “Architectureflows”: a tour along the banks offering non stop entertainment, hosted from time to time at locales, athletic clubs, restaurants terraces and other places narrating the history of Torino’s architecture. “Afterville” is the title of a combination of exhibitions all aimed at pointing out the conceptual and figurative interference between the planning concept and imagination of science fiction in the 20th century.
“La città disegnata dagli architetti” (The city designed by architects) presents an itinerary in 5 exhibits dedicated to architects who have made Torino a capital, creating extraordinary buildings and designing entire sections of town. “YOUPrison Riflessioni sulla limitazione di spazio e libertà” (Reflections upon the limitations of space and freedom): the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo foundation is dedicating an exhibit on the theme of penitentiary architecture. “Casa Capriata 2008” is a research project, that began in 2006, and is concluding for the occasion of this Congress. Its completion at Gressony Saint-Jean (Aosta) – in a state of the arts technological form – is of a project originally conceived by Carlo Mollino for the 10th Triennale di Milano of 1954. At the time it was not completed. “Trasmettere la Città Sostenibile. Il caso studio di Basse di Stura” (Conveying the Sustainable City. The study case of Basse di Stura) is a project that contributes to the training of conscience awareness of eco-sustainability in the field of town planning, extended towards a responsible future as well as towards new cultural attitudes.
