Venerevanità
Palazzo Lucerna di Rorà
from 29.06.2008 to 28.10.2008
Woman as a source of beauty, inspiration and desire is the key to Venerevanità (Vanity Venus). A tribute to the female through 56 works in ceramic, created according to the taste in vogue among the Italian bourgeois in the years preceding the Second World War. Representations by artists like Mario Sturani, Abele Jacopi, Helen Konig Scavini or Johanna Jarmer, are affected by the ideal, classical Venus and the settings of a post floral and “Deco” character. The nudity of these small statues suggests themes that are traditionally associated with female iconography such as fertility, vanity, lost innocence and a game of uninterrupted postponement that fluctuates between irony, eroticism and provocation.
