Il Tour de France in Piemonte
Cuneo e le sue Valli
from 20.07.2008 to 22.07.2008
The mountains in the province of Cuneo must have put a spell even on the organisers of the Tour who, for the first time, have planned a day of rest for the yellow caravan outside their national territory. Athletes as well as organisation are stopping in Cuneo – on July 21st – after having filed away the 15th stage: a 183 km push on the pedals from Digne-les-Bains to Prato Nevoso, with entry into Italy by way of the Colle dell’Agnello pass and an uphill arrival. On July 22nd the race starts up again from the capital of the province with another mega-stage for climbers: 157 km of mountains until Jausiers where the 2,351 m of the Colle della Lombarda pass and the 2,802 m of the Cima della Bonnette peak are to be to surpassed.
The province of Cuneo is proposing several initiatives to celebrate the arrival of one of the most important sports events in the world and to indicate the area as a “biker friendly” zone. Two-wheel enthusiasts and amateur bikers can compete along routes specially set up by the Cycle Tourism district of the province of Cuneo in order to emulate the performances of the professionals. Other centres seen in the race are preparing celebrations and shows. Cuneo has organised a free concert with Antonello Venditti on Saturday the 19th for its “Yellow Night”.
