Il Celeste Impero
Museo di Antichità - Piazza Duomo angolo via XX Settembre
from 11.07.2008 to 16.11.2008
Not only some of the statues from the eternal army, but other masterpieces arriving from various Chinese museums as well make this exhibit an important opportunity to promote knowledge of far away cultures like those from Asia. Cultures which have hosted the richest empires, the most developed nations, witnessing the birth of scientific knowledge and the most advanced technologies for thousands of years. This exhibit unwinds along an ideal path that follows a historical, political and cultural course that developed along that immense caravan-menagerie that was the Silk Road. Among the works on display, visitors can admire precious lacquers from the tomb of the Marchioness of Dai, bronzes from the funeral trousseau of Prince Liu Sheng, gold and silver finds of the refined goldsmiths from the Tang dynasty. The exhibit also presents Buddhist sculpture, demonstrated by a votive stele from the end of the 6th century and by marvellous statues from the Tang dynasty (618 -907 A.D.) which include a monumental Buddha Maitreya from the Longmen caves. In several of the museum’s rooms, a preview of some of the most significant finds of different cultural veins are visible. These pieces are a part of the collections at the Museo d’Arte Orientale di Torino (Torino Oriental Art museum) whose opening is scheduled for next fall.
