La chitarra:quattro secoli di capolavori
Palazzo del Monferrato
from 20.09.2008 to 19.10.2008
This is the first time that an exposition has ever offered an exhibit so filled with masterpieces. It also offers the possibility of analysing the transformations of an instrument that has evolved so noticeably over a period of four hundred years, adapting itself to the demands and modifications of serious music. Furthermore, this exhibit brings the rarest and most precious guitars that are currently preserved together, like those that once belonged to Niccolò Paganini, Mauro Giuliani and Queen Margherita di Savoia. About seventy instruments are present, covering a chronological period extending from the early 17th century to the second half of the 20th century: from Baroque-era guitars decorated with refined material and inlays (One in particular that we feel obligated to mention is a rarity: one that belonged to the great luthier Antonio Stradivarius.) to those more classic instruments which, thanks to the artistry of virtuoso musicians like Andrés Segovia, have released these six strings from the rank of simple popular instrument. There is also a luthier workshop set up at the exhibit where several masters will be demonstrating the various phases of guitar-making, revealing the secrets of the trade.
