Autumn explodes in all of its richness. The season, among the best loved by food connoisseurs the world over, offers an incredible opportunity to get to know the traditions of a place as well as its food and wine culture. In Piemonte, this season is a complete line-up of sagre (celebrations) and fairs dedicated to the best products from the earth. Among the events not to be missed in the province of Torino is the 19th Fiera della Toma (Toma Cheese Fair), in Condove from the 4th to the 13rd of October, which offers a trip through the pastureland cheeses and the ancient roads of Condove - the star of an enticing gastronomic stroll. To indulge in the luxury of a prized truffle-based menu, just go to the province of Asti. In fact, on the 5th and 12nd of October, in Montiglio, the 10th Fiera Comunale Del Tartufo (City Truffle Fair) takes place, a glorious event that combines truffle tasting with the best local wines and a series of shows and other entertainment. Instead, arriving in Roccabruna (Cn), during the same several days (the 10th to the 12nd of October), one can take part in the 31st Gran Castagnata (Great Chestnut Roast) and the 6th Fiera Di Valle (Valley Fair), two splendid opportunities to experience the territory’s typicality - and not just gastronomic. On the 8th of October, the 33rd Sagra del Cardo (Cardoon Celebration) is the star of Andezeno (To), while “Paletta e dintorni” (“Paletta and Its Surroundings”), the 2nd Sagra enogastronomica della paletta e del macagn (Food and Wine Celebration of Paletta [a prociutto) and Macagn [a cheese] – Slow Food presidios), takes the stage in Coggiola (Bi) (on the 11st and 12nd of October). Instead, in Carignano (Cn) (on the 11st and 12nd of October) you can visit the 17th Sagra del Ciapinabo (Jerusalem artichoke), where, besides the tasty green tuber, you will see various agricultural, wine, and food products displayed on the stands. Finally, the 35th Sagra del Barbera e del cardo storto (Celebration of Barbera Wine and Crooked Cardoon) brings the town of Incisa Scapaccino (At) to life. From the 17th to the 19st of October, you can savor chestnuts from the numerous chestnut groves located in the Valle di Susa at Villar Focchiardo (To). Chestnuts are also the main attraction at Frabosa Sottana, where the 20th Sagra della Castagna – Premio della Castagna D’Oro (Chestnut Celebration – Golden Chestnut Award) will be held from the 17th to the 19th of October. From the 18th to the 19th of October, this tasty itinerary moves to Coazze for the Festa rurale del Cevrin (Rural Festival of Cevrin Cheese). The aroma of prized wines and roasted chestnuts will lead you to Tagliolo Monferrato (Al) on the 19th of October. From the 17th to the 20th of October, Moriondo Torinese will present the 6th Sagra del Cavolo Liscio (Cabbage Celebration) and on the 19th of October, Coassolo Torinese will organize the exclusive Sagra della Mela (Apple Celebration). Wine and typical onion-based dishes accompanied by lively song and dance are scheduled on the 19th of October in Andezeno (To) for the 13rd Sagra della Cipolla (Onion Celebration). On the 19th and the 26th of October, Moncalvo (At) pays homage to the king of Piemonte’s woodland underbrush with the 53rd Fiera del Tartufo bianco del Piemonte (Celebration of the Piemonte White Truffle). While awaiting the award for the “Tartufo d’Oro” (“Golden Truffle”), visitors can indulge in appetite-whetting strolls among the displays at the truffle market and the stands with typical products and local crafts. On the 12nd of October, Andrate (To) will promote the great variety of products from its territory beginning with polenta, a dish traditionally prepared with the ancient flour from Nostrano dell’Isola. A Sagra dei Vini (Celebration of Wines), with an enjoyable morning stroll down paths among vineyards and woods, will bring Cinzano (To) to life on the 26th of October, while the 24th Grande Castagnata (Great Chestnut Roast) accompanied by the 16th Mostra Mercato (Market Fair) of crafts, hobbies, typical products, and antiques will be held in Cigliano (Vc).
