Torino World Design Capital

Torino World Design Capital

Torino is the first World Design Capital. For the whole of 2008, the city will be transformed into a model promoting territorial planning. Torino World Design Capital is broken down into four phases to address citizens, businesses, the academic and training world and institutions, in the conviction that design is an instrument of economic, social and cultural development.

Places

Palaisozaki

It is the new Torino Olympic Palasport (Sports Arena) designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki for the Winter Olympics in Torino 2006. A multi-functional space, versatile and flexible which, thanks to the mobility of its platform, can turn from an ice rink into a concert, show, or convention venue.

Castello di Aglič

This sumptuous home was built, beginning in 1646 following a design by Amedeo di Castellamonte, by Filippo d’Aglie, statesman, literary man, choreographer, and adviser to Madama Reale, on the ruins of an ancient fortress.

Forte di Vinadio

Requested by Re Carlo Alberto, the Forte (Fort) di Vinadio represents one of the most important examples of military architecture from the Alps. It extends length-wise for 1,200 meters, on three levels, which cover about 10 km of interior passageway.

People

Nanni Moretti

Nanni Moretti

"It seems to me that Torino had a rush of pride with the winter Olympics; I remember that during that time, I would hear a lot of people surprised at the city’s reawakening: that feeling is still there."

Riccardo Scamarcio

"I confess. I have committed the sin of gluttony in Piemonte. Dishes made with Alba truffles are irresistible and are a “must” during my stays in Piemonte."

Giorgio Faletti

"Until I reached a certain age, I thought that people from Asti were called abstemious and so when anyone asked where I was from, I calmly answered: “Abstemious’."
