Situated in the heart of the historical centre of Moncalieri, the Teatro Matteotti was built in 1955 on the ground floor of Silvio Pellico school, to a design by architects Mario Passanti and Paolo Perona. The auditorium, opened in 1987 following restoration work, was named after the Italian politician in 1988. The interior is not particularly large, with a total of 270 seats, 190 in the stalls and 80 in the gallery. For the last few years the technical and artistic direction of the theatre has been handled by Istituzione Musicateatro Moncalieri. The programme includes drama, operetta, concerts and dance, as well as children’s theatre and amateur dramatics.
