Winter Sports - Bardonecchia
Category: Winter Sports

Situated on the French border, at an altitude of 1312 metres, Bardonecchia offers mountain and winter sports enthusiasts a modern resort equipped with every comfort (don’t miss the indoor skateboard park). Chosen as the venue for all the Olympic snowboarding events in Torino 2006, it boasts a top level district, not only for this discipline, but also for carving, downhill skiing and cross-country skiing too. While snowboarders can enjoy the thrill of a day dedicated exclusively to the Snowpark situated at the bottom of the Melezet lifts, perfectly prepared ski runs offer atmospheric tracks and excellent opportunities for cross-country skiing, such as the extra-difficult ring at Pian del Colle, also thanks to the efficient programmed snow coverage network. The skiing area in Bardonecchia comprises two areas with very different, but complementary, characteristics. The first includes the Colomion, Les Arnauds and Melezet lifts. Featuring broad ski-runs, many of which running through woods, it encompasses a tight and artistic spider’s web of paths which, starting from the town centre - Campo Smith at an altitude of just over 1300 metres – reaches the vast plateaux outside the woods of Vallon Cros, at 2400 metres above sea level. The second encompasses the Jafferau lifts and touches its highest altitude at 2800 metres. Here, in a natural environment with an unequalled view of the surrounding mountains, most skiing takes place outside the woods, with an infinity of off-piste itineraries available in spring too. Altogether, the district offers 21 lifts capable of carrying over 30,000 people an hour, 100 kilometres of downhill runs, 35 of which equipped with a fully automated artificial snow coverage system. But the surprises that Bardonecchia reserves for its guests aren’t just linked to a passion for sport. Welcoming and dynamic, it offers numerous cultural and entertainment opportunities: shows of national and international importance at Palazzo delle Feste, shops, boutiques and the strong attraction of traditions, crafts and gastronomy, form the attractions of a location which is always attentive to the needs of tourists.
