Winter Sports - Cesana - San Sicario
Category: Winter Sports

A hamlet of the Municipality of Cesana Torinese, Sansicario is situated in the centre of the Via Lattea district. Connected with Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Monti della Luna, Claviere and Montgenevre, it places kilometres of downhill ski runs at the disposal of tourists and, for lovers of cross-country skiing, splendid tracks that wind among larch and fir woods. In this locality it isn’t hard to relive the excitement of Torino 2006, skiing on the difficult Fraiteve Olympic track, redesigned especially to host the women’s speed disciplines of the XX Olympic Winter Games. Another fast track is number 72, once venue of numerous international “freestyles”. The ski runs of Monti della Luna offer slighter differences in altitude but are greatly appreciated by ski enthusiasts as they run through woods, occupying very narrow tracks. They include ski run 93, which flanks the new La Coche-Serra Granet-Colle Bercia chair-lift and is definitely one of the busiest. In Sansicario, the spring season allows for adventure, in the company of specialised guides, on fantastic off-piste slopes and ski touring excursions. It is the ideal destination for children too, who can approach the snow playing and enjoying themselves in the Fun Park, equipped with an easy to use moving carpet lift and inflatable structures for the entertainment of younger children. The town has a characteristic shopping centre with shops, typical restaurants, a piano-bar and nightclub, which make it particularly suitable for enjoying mountain life peacefully while having fun. Not far from the systems, visitors have the chance to visit the characteristic village of Cesana, which still retains the characteristics of an old village at the foot of the Monginevro Pass (an old road to Francem used by Hannibal in Roman times), just a stone’s throw from the ski runs of Monti della Luna and Claviere. During the 2006 Winter Olympics, Cesana hosted the Biathlon (Cesana Sansicario), Women’s Downhill Skiing (Sansicario Fraiteve), bob, luge and skeleton (Cesana Pariol).
