With its numerous cross-country skiing centres, the Stura Valley is considered to be the home of this discipline. The Aisone-Vinadio district offers a fascinating and charming track allowing skiers the chance to immerse themselves in nature, amidst the chestnut and fir woods on the valley floor. It runs from the Aisone plan to Vinadio, where skiers enter – on their skis – Fort Albertino, one of the most interesting examples of military architecture in the whole Alpine arc dating back over a thousand years. Aisone-Vinadio also offers other, shorter circuits, one of which is approved by the FISI, with a total of 45 km of cross-country skiing itineraries. It is possible to ski on an artificial indoor ice rink measuring almost 1000 square metres within the walls of the Fort and there are also lots of itineraries for off-piste skiing, such as the course that following the Vallone della Valletta, leading to Pinet, in the Alpi Marittime Park.

HOW TO GET THERE
By car: from Cuneo, take SS 20 to Borgo San Dalmazzo and then SS 21 to Colle della Maddalena, through the Stura Valley. Drive as far as the hamlet of Aisone.
