Right from the 17th century, the town has owed its fame to the hot, sulphurous waters of its spa centre. In more recent times, Bagni di Vinadio has also become known for the ski touring excursions that can be experienced in the lateral gorges and its range of Nordic skiing facilities. The Cross-country Skiing Centre, dedicated to the area’s Olympic champion Giulietto Gerardi, is situated in the alpine hamlet of Strepeis and has 6 circuits of varying lengths – totalling approximately 20 km – all of which can be used when there is lots of snow. The main route is 7 km long and is the circuit which gradually climbs linking Strepeis (1281 m) to Callieri (1455 m). From this second locality it is possible to continue along the Anello degli Abeti to Rocca di San Bernolfo, a hamlet of considerable architectonic value, thanks to its characteristic dwelling, which feature the traditional hay-thatched roofs and walls made of tree trunks jammed into place.

HOW TO GET THERE
By car: from Cuneo, take S.S. 20 to Borgo San Dalmazzo and then S.S. 21 to Colle della Maddalena, through the Stura Valley. Drive as far as the hamlet of Pianche di Vinadio and then turn to the left on SP 238 as far as Bagni di Vinadio
