Part of the Valle dell’Orco, with its natural heritage, falls under the protection of the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, Italy’s oldest protected area. The ski resorts lies at the gates to the Park, in the municipalities of Ceresole Reale, Locana, Alpette and Valprato Soana. The systems are small, apart from the cross-country skiing facilities at Ceresole Reale, and can offer a pleasant diversion from bigger, crowded ski resorts. From the Mila Refuge, a fairly easy 10 km circuit runs along the shores of Lake Ceresole and joins up – via a link – with another track, approved by the FISI, equipped with an artificial snow system which can be used for competitive events. The system offers access to a district occupying about 20 km, where it is possible to hire skis, sledges and snow dinghies. A modern ice rink measuring 44x22 metres is also open in Ceresole, at an altitude of 1500 metres, along with a sledging area for children.
