Winter Sports - Caldirola
Category: Winter Sports
The Caldirola ski resort lies on the slopes of Monte Gropà, in the municipality of Fabbrica Curone. This was one of the first winter tourist localities to be set up in Italy and history tells us that the first imported Norwegian skis appeared on the snows of this locality in the winter of 1927-28 and, in those years, to reach the ski runs one had to travel on the back of a mule. Today the ski runs are served by two ski-lifts and a chair-lift linking the locality of La Gioia (1110 m) with Monte Gropà (1446 m). There are four tracks of differing levels of difficulty, which all converge in the canal that hosts the chair-lift departure point. Also on the slopes of the mountain, there is also a cross-country skiing circuit. Bars, hotels and restaurants are distributed among the various hamlets of Fabbrica Curone.
