The ‘Castello dei Paleologi’ (Paleologi Castle) houses a museum with a collection of various finds, which were unearthed during years of excavation in and regeneration of this small town and the surrounding areas. The museum has been completely renovated and has been organized in six themed rooms. The first room houses prehistoric finds, from the Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age, while evidence of human activities during the Iron Age and up until the first Roman cities are kept in the second room. The third room is devoted to burial objects found in urban necropolis, as well as stela and tombstones. In the main exhibition room can be seen the reconstruction of an ancient Roman fountain in grey marble, the heart of a Roman bath. In the fourth room rich medieval funerary objects are displayed, evidence of the Lombard presence in this area. The sixth room displays commercial and manufacturing aspects of the ancient town, with hundreds of amphoras used for trade, matrixes used for the mass-production of oil-lamps and large quantities of everyday objects.
