The battle of Marengo that was won by the French troops, under the command of young First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte on the 14th June 1800, in fact marks the beginning of the commander’s rise. The museum is located in Spinetta Marengo, inside a mansion built especially to remember and celebrate the French victory. It is rich in memorabilia from the Napoleonic period. There are numerous weapons on display, as well as flags, documents and prints of the time. The mansion also comprises an old inn that was used by Napoleon as a billet and then converted into an infirmary for the wounded from both fronts. At the request of Napoleon, in the park of the mansion was placed a memorial stone, which together with the “Fontanone” (Large Fountain) reminds us of one of the most emblematic moments of the battle. A large model shows the exact formation of the armies before the battle.
