Chiesa di San Secondo di Cortazzone
Category: Abbeys and churches
Via Francigena, the road used by pilgrims on their way to Rome, is filled with small Romanesque churches, authentic architectural jewels that seem to foster ancient, esoteric secrets, forming the golden triangle of the Romanesque period right in the heart of Monferrato. The Chiesa di San Secondo di Cortazzone is one of the most fascinating from an esoteric viewpoint as well as for the wealth of symbolism that inspired its ornamentation. Another point of interest is that it wasn’t only a stop en route to Rome but also one along the way of St. James. Erected on a hill in Mongiglietto, it is a Benedictine structure built in the 11th century.
