Venaria Reale

The large hunting estate bordering the Reggia di Venaria was built during the 18th century in an area of fields and woods of approximately 1000 hectares. During the second half of the 19th century, it became the private haven of King Vittorio Emanuele II and his mistress Rosa Vercellana, also known as “Bela Rosin”. At this time, the Castello della Mandria is embellished with buildings of neo-gothic and eclectic taste, and the interior of the Royal Apartment is restructured and furnished according to a style that reflects the free, straightforward and nonchalant personality of the ruler. The Parco della Mandria is a part of an extensive renovation project that includes the Reggia and the old town centre of Venaria Reale promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Assets and the Regione Piemonte.
