CittądellArte- Fondazione Pistoletto (Biella)
Category: Modern and contemporary art
This Foundation was established in 1998 in the former Trombetta wool mill. It was created as a multicultural centre regarding various sectors, following a suggestion of Michelangelo Pistoletto. He was an artist and among the founders of the Arte Povera, which imagined a new, more dynamic role for the artist, who had to be more involved in social dynamics. An industrial archaeological building is transformed, following this intuition, into a factory of ideas. “Cittadellarte” (Art City) is, in fact, a large laboratory where creativity becomes the common ground between different cultural, economic and production sectors. It is a great energy generator, a place where things can be reconsidered, where points of view can be shared, where people can study and research. The name itself, ”Cittadellarte”, recalls two meanings: the meaning of “cittadella” (citadel), a protected and well defended area where artistic projects can find nourishment and grow, and the meaning of “città” (city) that recollects the idea of openness and of complex mutual relations with the world. Here art interacts directly with the whole social system – from economy to politics, from science to production, from education to behaviour – to achieve a responsible transformation in the human civilization.
