Fabbrica della Ruota (Pray)

Driving along the “La strada della lana” (wool route), which links Biella to Borgosesia, one can’t leave out a visit to the Fabbrica della Ruota (Wheel Factory) located in the former lanificio Zignone (Zignone wool mill). It is an important example of industrial archaeology, with a XIX century shell with several floors, that has recently been restored to become home of this museum. The architects in charge of the restoration have been able to recreate a factory ambience, by describing in detail the plant that processed raw wool and transformed it into a soft and precious fabric. Video installations allow visitors to virtually see the machinery in motion, as well as recreating the sounds of voices and noises typical of a factory. The Museum is also home of the Centre for the textile industry records, it has a dedicated library with over 1500 books and it houses an educational permanent exhibition on the functioning of this factory.
