Ecomuseo della Terracotta (Ronco Biellese)
Category: Eco-museums
The “bielline” are simple terracotta crockery pieces made over the centuries by the villagers of Ronco. The villagers have been able to become experts in the various clay processing phases, as far as manufacturing artefacts that have made this town into one of the most renowned centres for the production of dishes and crockery for everyday use. The Ecomuseo della Terracotta (Terracotta Eco-Museum) houses a fine collection of “bielline”, about 450 original pieces in various shapes, earthenware, fireproof terracotta, whistles and toys. The visit is organised in seven outdoor theme areas disseminated throughout the town, which allow visitors to follow the various phases of clay processing: from the beginning to the final firing. The commercial aspect of this craft is documented with data on the quantities and types of products as well as their commercialization.
