In the Museo Leone (Museum Leone), that was opened to the public in 1910, is kept the collection donated to the Istituto di Belle Arti (Fine Arts Institution) by the notary Camillo Leone (1830-1907). The Museum is set out inside two ancient buildings connected by a linking tunnel: the XVI century Casa Alciati (Alciati House) and the baroque Palazzo Langosco (Langosco Palace). Casa Alciati, which dates back to the beginning of the XVI century, used to be a noble residence and its rooms are decorated with wall frescoes dating back to the early fifteen hundreds. The influence exerted by Roman styles of painting of the time on the style of these frescoes, is revealed by the presence of numerous friezes in the grotesque style, and by mythological subjects based on classical iconography, as well as by the use of trompe-l´oeil. The rooms of Palazzo Langosco (Langosco Palace) are more recent, and are decorated with XVIII century paintings and stuccoes. The important archaeological collections of ancient history of Vercelli are exhibited in the thirteen rooms on the ground floor. The setting up of these collections reconstructs the history of Vercelli, from prehistoric times to the Risorgimento. In the gallery next to the garden is displayed a fragment of the rich collection of incunabula and XVI century books kept in the Library, where are also kept books printed by renowned printed from Vercelli e Trino.
