Palazzo Carpano (Torino)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
Although historically this is the Palazzo degli Asinari di San Marzano (Palace of the Asinari di San Marzano), for the people of Torino, aperitif enthusiasts, it is known as Palazzo Carpano (Carpano Palace). Carpano is an old business that produces vermouth, and has had its official seat in this palace for many years. The palace is decorated with stuccoes, statues and shapes by Guarino Guarini, who created a spectacular visual impact. The most impressive part is the entrance hall, which is adorned with red marble spiral columns. It was built in 1684 following a design by Michelangelo Garove, who was the engineer of the duke of Savoy and of Prince Carignano. The palace was completed by Benedetto Alfieri in the following century and is, together with the Palazzi Barolo, Graneri and Morozzo, one of the most magnificent noble residences of the city.
