Buildings of historical importance
Palazzina La Fleur (Torino)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
Torino is renowned for the large baroque Savoy residences. It became, however, between the end of the eighteen hundreds and the beginning of the nineteen hundreds, capital city of the Art Nouveau style, known in Italy as Liberty. One of its most refined leading characters was engineer Pietro Fenoglio, who designed about a hundred buildings including his own house, the Palazzina La Fleur (La Fleur Building). It is a three-storey building with a corner tower raised by a storey, with large stained glass windows and wrought iron. The walls were decorated with delicate colours, characteristic of the Liberty style: green, pink, light blue. The front gate and the doors to the flats have carvings similar to the mouldings of the windows, and have brass handles. The Palazzina La Fleur corresponds to the original and eccentric style that well represented the city’s ruling class, which was committed to taking Torino into the new century. The same could be said of the other buildings created by Fenoglio in the early nineteen hundreds (Casa Maciotta, Villa Scott, Casa Rossi Galateri, Casa Boffa e Casa Balbis).
