Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo Cavour (Torino)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
This palace is an astonishing example of Piemonte baroque, and is renowned as the residence of Camillo Benso count of Cavour. The two courtyards – the courtyard of honour and the rustic courtyard onto which the stables overlooked – are on an axis and connected by an embrasured portal, following a design of spectacular spaces in sequence that also include the entrance hall. The hall is divided into two rooms with crescent shaped cap vaults decorated with stuccoes. Palazzo Cavour (Cavour Palace) was built in 1729 following a design by Gian Giacomo Plantery, and was extended in 1754, when architect Giuseppe Bovis built a new wing on Cavour Street. Palazzo Cavour is now a prestigious exhibition area and a museum, as wanted by the Regione Piemonte (Piemonte Region), which also runs it, to give space to national and international cultural events.
