Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana (Torino)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo Saluzzo di Paesana was built by Gian Giacomo Plantery between 1715 and 1722, and it was commissioned by Baldassarre Saluzzo di Paesana. It cost the exorbitant amount of 300.000 lire, and it is possibly the largest and most complex noble palace of Torino. The building extends around the perimeter of Piazza Savoia, and it overlooks a large courtyard where two porticoes surmounted by spectacular galleries face each other. Above the entrance hall is a classical "planteriana" crescent shaped cap vault, that rests only on the outer structures, giving a great sense of space. The Saluzzo family’s flat, even though is now smaller compared to the original size, still retains XVIII century decorations, such as the frescoed vault and the ornamental panels over the doors by Domenico Guidobono.
