Palazzo Scaglia di Verrua (Scaglia di Verrua’s Palace) is one of the oldest buildings of the city. It was chosen as the location for the meeting between Nicola and Giulia, who are the main characters of the film “La meglio gioventù” (The best youth) by Marco Tullio Giordana. “La meglio gioventù” (The best youth) is a short TV serial about the 1970s, which was filmed and partially set in Torino. Palazzo Scaglia di Verrua was built between 1585 and 1604 by abbot Filiberto Scaglia di Verrua, who was an ambassador as well as a minister. This palace is, together with the Duomo di San Giovanni (St John’s Cathedral), one of the few examples of Renaissance architecture in Torino. It was began in 1585 and finished in the following century by Gian Andrea Garabello, in its courtyard there is a portico frescoed with allegorical characters that also embellish the façade.
