The Rocchetta Tanaro Nature Park

Category: Parks

Rocchetta Tanaro

The protected area extends over the hills of Monferrato, which are naturally sandy and, therefore, subject to serious erosion. The woods are made up of various tree varieties, in particular, chestnut, black locust, and oak mixed with sessile oak, English oak, Turkey oak, and downy oak. The underbrush includes hazelnut, ivy, and honeysuckle. Even if the badger is the symbol of the park, the woods has other mammals such as foxes, squirrels, and weasels. The bird life consists of about forty species of nesting birds such as: the goldcrest, the firecrest, the wood warbler, the tawny owl, the jay, the green woodpecker, and the lesser spotted woodpecker.
The park also has paths for bikes and horses and has two areas set-up for those with disabilities and a path for the non-seeing.
