Conca Cialancia Nature Park (Perrero)
Category: Parks
The Conca Cialancia is entirely within the borders of the Community of Perrero and has the Rio Balma and its tributary, Rio Cialancia, running through it. “Cialancio” means “landslide” in the local dialect and, in effect, the entire valley is crossed by canyons that deposit matter throughout each season, continuously modifying the layout of the land. In the Rocca Bianca valley at the edge of the protected area, there are talc and marble mineral sites which are still partially active and where it is possible to see the remains of other mines – their buildings, their tunnels, and their transport systems. The flattest areas are the home to the mountain alder which is coupled with plant species such as the wild geranium, the twoflower violet, the hellebore, the common wood sorrel, and the lady’s mantle. On higher ground, instead, there is the sub-alpine willow together with early species such as the saxifrage, the Bavarian gentian, the androsace alpina, and the buttercup. As far as fauna is concerned, there are hoofed animals such as the chamois, roe deer, and alpine ibex, along with marmots and the alpine hare. Among the nesting creatures, there are common kestrels, jays, partridges, black grouses, and ptarmigans. Also native to the Cozie Alps: the alpine salamander.
This amphibian has been able adapt to high altitude life by giving birth, unlike other amphibians, to already completely developed offspring.
