Nichelino

The Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi (Stupinigi Hunting Palace) lies a mere ten kilometres from Torino. The Palace was built in the first half of the XVIII century and is considered to be one of the most interesting works by architect Filippo Juvarra. The building was designed to be in harmony with the historic park-garden that surrounds it, which is divided into geometrical sections by a series of walks and paths. The surrounding woods and farmlands have a connection to this place both as an environmental support and as a functional and economic resource.
The remaining wood is of glacial origin and is characterised by broad-leaved vegetation as well as being home to enormous specimens of pedunculate oak. The wood is a shelter and an ideal habitat for: hares, red squirrels, dormice, foxes and weasels. The bird population comprises nesting birds and migrating birds, including the white stork, the tree pipit and the water pipit.
This protected area can be visited both on foot and on horseback. The old medieval castle, called Castelvecchio, is located a short distance from the Palace and can be seen from here. The Palace houses the Museo d´Arte e Ammobiliamento (Art and Furnishing Museum).
