Provincial Nature Park of the Col del Lys (Rubiana)

Category: Parks

Rubiana

The protected area of the Col di Lys (Lys Hill) straddles the towns of Rubiana and Viù, and it was established to protect an area that also represents a “memento” of the war of liberation, since 2104 partisans died in the fights that took place in these valleys. A thick network of paths and mule tracks link the many panoramic spots that overlook the valleys and the plains of Torino, with the VII century Santuario della Madonna della Bassa (Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Bassa) and the wood that is home to birches, silver firs, spruces, larches, Scots pines and Corsican pines. In more humid, deep and narrow valleys we can find beech and alder scrubs, while the moors are characterised by mountain ashes and rowans. The endemic presence of the Euphorbia gebelica also deserves to be mentioned, since this is an extremely rare species in Piemonte.
