Provincial Nature Park of the Monte Tre Denti – Freidour (Cumiana)
Category: Parks
The outline of the Tre Denti ridge stands out in this provincial Park, it can in fact be seen even from a long distance. The Park includes part of the head of the basin of the river Chisola and of the river Sangone. The foot of the mountains are almost completely covered in beech trees, chestnut trees, sessile oaks, Scots pines and reforested with conifers, which went to reoccupy abandoned grasslands and grazing lands. In spring we can admire the bright colours of primroses, lungworts, periwinkles, white and pink carpets of anemones and dog´s-teeth, as well as crocuses and gentianellas, when they all come into flower. The Park is also home to a substantial number of hoofed animals such as roe deer, chamois and wild boars, as well as birds of prey such as the buzzard , the peregrine falcon and the raven. The territory of the Park was for a long time used for chestnut and apple production. The latter, at the end of the eighteen hundreds, were exported as far away as Calcutta, Bombay and St Petersburg. Ten main routes are marked in the Park, some of which have rock faces equipped by the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) of Cumiana for rock climbing.
