Special Nature Reserve of the Orrido and Copse of the Leccio di Chianocco (Chianocco)
Category: Parks
L’Orrido (precipice) is a spectacular crevice, nearly ten metres wide and more than fifty deep, created by the Prebèc Torrent in its descent towards the base of the Susa Valley. The climate is characterised by rather high summer temperatures, low snowfall and little rain; these climactic conditions, together with its south-facing aspect, have favoured the development of various plants typical of the Mediterranean or steppe climate, such as the Adiantum capillus-veneris, the Asplenium fontanum and the Thesium divaricatum. The most interesting feature is a spontaneous copse of holm oaks (Quercus ilex) unique in Piemonte, relics of previous interglacial periods.
