Special Nature Reserve of the Area of Augusta Bagiennorum (Chiusa Pesio)
Category: Parks
This Nature Reserve was established to protect the beauties of this landscape and, especially, to protect the excavations of Augusta Bagiennorum, which are located in the territory of Roncaglia. Augusta Bagiennorum was one of the most important Roman cities of the Cisalpine Gaul. The excavations have unearthed the remains of four-sided Towers, the Forum, the Temple, the civil Basilica, the Thermae, the Aqueduct and of numerous houses. The Amphitheatre, which was situated outside the city walls, is also partially visible. The surrounding area is made up of a large flat stretch of cultivated fields, as well as sparse woods and isolated farmhouses of antique origins.
