Special Oriented Reserve of the Palude di Casalbeltrame

Category: Parks

Casalbeltrame

This protected area is divided into two sub-areas: one is classified as ‘Oriented Nature Reserve’ and the other is a ‘Special Nature Reserve’ because is home to particular species of birds. The marsh is an ideal habitat for numerous species of non-migrating and nesting birds, as well as for others that do migrate and follow a course that runs between the river Ticino and the river Sesia. Among the many birds are: the teal, the moorhen, the little grebe, the grey egret, the egret, the great bittern, the little bittern, the little egret, the white stork, the spoonbill and the stilt. The marshy environment favoured the formation of the typical reed beds, where common reed (Phragmites australis), bulrush (Typha latifolia) and common rushes (especially Juncus inflexus) prevailed. We can also find: white willows, white poplars, black alders, elms, pedunculate oaks and grey willows. The area can be visited with consent from the Park Managing Body.
