Protected Area of the Stura di Lanzo
Category: Parks
This Area protects the last parts of the ancient riparian glacial wood that once grew along the sides of the river Stura. This is an ideal habitat for several species of amphibians, fish and reptiles, as well as being home to over a hundred species of birds, including non-migrating and migrating birds. In the river Stura lives a rare crayfish. The Ostrich fern, a kind of fern not usually found in Piemonte can be seen here in large numbers, and the remains of a fossilised forest dating back to a few hundred thousand years ago emerges in several spots.
