Mostra Permanente del Puncetto (Fobello)
Category: Tradition
The Museo del Puncetto is housed in a period building in the centre of the village. Here we can admire both the lace works created by the ever rarer ‘puncettaie’ (lace makers), and the wonderful collection of costumes of the Val Mastallone. The Puncetto is a unique type of lace that has been made for a thousand years. It is only made in Valsesia and tradition has it that it arrived here with the Saracen invasion in X century. Its name means "small stitch" and it consists in a series of countless small overlapping and alternated slipknots that create, through the interplay between the holes and the fabric, a precious type of lace with geometric patterns.
