Casa della Resistenza (Verbania)

The Casa della Resistenza (Resistance House) lies inside a 5.000 square metre park and is close to the memorial site where on 20th June 1944, the Nazi-Fascists massacred around forty partisans. The major treasures of the Casa della Resistenza are photographs and documents relating to the Resistance, in particular from the area of Verbania and Cusio Ossola; a multimedia Galleria della Memoria (Memory Gallery) has further enriched the museum since the summer 2004, and here the Resistance is translated into sound and images. This is a multipurpose building where we can find a great hall, used for conferences, inside which is a collection of photographs and documents on the Liberazione (Liberation). The adjacent rooms have a great many explanatory panels on the history of Italy from 1915 to 1945, on the Nazi concentration camps and on how school used to be during the Fascist period. The archive comprises an extended collection of documents, personal accounts and historical relics from1940 to 1946.
