This unique museum was created after gold finds in gold deposits, in the old mines of the Val Gorzente and in the gold drifts of the Val d'Orba during research works. This museum analyses the history of the “caccia all’oro” in Italy form the Roman “aurifodinae” of the Bessa area to the mining companies who worked in the Italian speaking Switzerland and in the colonies. We can find a vast collection of finds such as mining tools, samples of gold ore, seams and gold dust found near the rivers. A devoted library further enriches the documents on display: collections of booklets, ownership documents, newspapers, photos and maps dating back to various times.
