Museo del Broletto (Novara)
Category: History and archaeology
This four-sided building is composed of four factory structures, which were built between the XIII and the XVIII century: Palazzo dell’Arengo (Communal Assembly Palace), which is the oldest, Palazzo dei “Paratici"(Guild Palace), Palazzo del Podestà (Podestà Palace) and Palazzo dei Referendari (Referendary Palace). The Broletto houses the Museo Civico (Municipal Museum), the Galleria d’Arte Moderna “Paolo e Adele Giannoni” (“Paolo e Adele Giannoni” Modern Art Gallery), which is closed at present due to restoration work, an archaeological section, and temporary exhibitions (at the Palazzo dell’Arengo). In the historical-artistic section visitors will find works documenting this area’s artistic output from the early XIII century to the nineteen hundreds. The archaeology section comprises finds – from the Neolithic to the Lombard era – unearthed in the Novara territory, which include daggers, arrow points, wooden axes, small daggers and large pins. The Galleria d’Arte Moderna (Modern Art Gallery) houses over eight hundred works, which give us a general outline of the many aspects of Italian painting of the last two centuries.
