Museo Archeologico, Pinacoteca Comunale (Varallo Pombia)
Category: History and archaeology
The archaeological museum and the painting gallery are situated inside Villa Soranzo, an old aristocratic home surrounded by a small park with ancient trees. This museum houses a collection of fossils from the "Civiltà di Golasecca e Romana" (Golasecca and Roman civilizations), which were unearthed during excavations in the territories of Castelletto Ticino, Comignago, Agrate Conturbia, Pombia and Varallo Pombia. This collection documents customs and traditions of the first people who settled in this territory. The objects exhibited in the rooms and in the display-cases have been organized chronologically, so as to depict the various cultures that lived in this area. The painting gallery houses a contemporary art collection, which comprises works made by artists who specialized in experimenting and researching.
