Ecomuseo delle Rocche del Roero (Montà)
Category: Eco-museums
This ecomuseum aims at documenting, protecting and developing the unusual relationship between man and the “rocche” (rocks). The “rocche” were created by an interesting phenomenon of erosion which followed the diversion of the course of the river Tanaro during the last interglacial period. Labyrinthine and spectacular series of gorges and ravines, bare and precipitous drops, sand pinnacles and peaks: this is the framework of this territory. This territory comprises the eight towns located at the top of the Rocche: from Cisterna to Pocapaglia. Characteristic areas are the main structure of this territory: “villas”, small villages at the top, towers, castles and, of course, the ‘rocche’. The purpose of this ecomuseum is to document this variety of features and the unique web of paths and theme itineraries, each telling us about a different aspect of the material and immaterial culture of this area.
